The Beatson Peeble Appeal

The Beatson Pebble Appeal is a £10M campaign to raise funds to build the Beatson Translational Research Centre; the final element in the creation of the Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research.

The Beatson Translational Research Centre (TRC) will convert basic cancer research into real improvements in treatments for patients. It will focus upon especially common tumours, those that cause the most deaths in Scotland such as endocrine (breast, prostate and ovarian); smoking related (lung, throat, oral) and gastrointestinal cancer. Since the campaign was launched in the summer of 2007, over £4.5m has been pledged.

Help For Heroes

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.

The Ayrshire Hospice

The Ayrshire Hospice was established to enhance the quality of life of those who are suffering from advanced cancer or Motor Neurone Disease for whom cure is no longer possible, as well as support for families facing the loss of a loved one.

The cost of providing care rises each year and has now reached £5.1m, of which £1.8m is received from Ayrshire & Arran Health Board, leaving the Hospice to fundraise approx £3.3m from voluntary sources.

Riding for the Disabled

RDA is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities, through the provision of opportunities for riding and/or carriage driving. Groups enable people to improve their health and wellbeing, delivering a real and lasting therapy that not only benefits mobility and co-ordination, but encourages confidence and self worth whilst having fun.

We specifically support the Winton branch who support disabled children from the wider Ayrshire community who attend specialist schools in full time education and suffer from various levels of disability and learning difficulties.

Riding for the Disabled rely entirely on voluntary contributions and volunteers to enable this excellent service to be provided.

Erskine Hospital

Founded in 1916, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. Re-building shattered lives, restoring dignity and providing first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old have been the cornerstones on which Erskine has built an unrivalled reputation.

Sadly war isn’t a thing of the past and we are already looking after young men and women who have come to Erskine from current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Erskine relies on fundraising and voluntary contributions to continue to provide this care and the Erskine 2010 appeal aims to raise £6 million to expand bed provision throughout Scotland and meet the growing need for the very special care that Erskine provides. With waiting lists in every part of the country a new home was opened in Glasgow in autumn 2007 and bed space was being doubled in the Erskine Edinburgh home in 2008.
