Show Report

This year, the typical wet Scottish weather meant that we had to postpone June's show and reschedule to Saturday 3 September. The wet weather continued and the day started off pretty miserably, however cleared up by about 10am and thankfully, for those who braved the conditions, stayed dry for the remainder of the day.

In advance of the show, cross country entries were at capacity, however it looks like the weather must have deterred lots of competitors from turning up, however it was certainly still busy and those who took part in the competition have reported back that the course was in good condition and they had a great time. This year we ran our first 'Pairs' competition and this seemed to be very popular with the spaces filling up quickly and turned out to be a fun way to end the day!

The showing and showjumping had equally good entries and it looks like the ponies were braver than the horses with busier pony classes across the board - sorry to all the mums and dads who probably had no choice but to take their kids, regardless of the miserable start to the day! As is always the case at Blair Gymkhana, the novelty classes were fiercely contended, and again the effort and creativity put into the fancy dress costumes was fantastic!

I hope that everyone had a great time at the show and as ever I would like to thank all the competitors and spectators for turning up and supporting the show, especially given the weather conditions!

Thanks also to our very generous sponsors and our amazing volunteers who kindly give up their time to judge, steward, XC jump judge, act as time-keepers, direct traffic and generally provide support where required. Without sponsors and volunteers this show wouldn't keep running each year, raising money for charity, and we are greatly appreciative of everyone involved.

And well done to the Committee, who worked really hard preparing for the show (twice!) then clearing up the aftermath - another fabulous effort by the Committee, who have been dedicated to the Blair Gymkhana for many years.

The results are now available to view and don't forget you can view and purchase photos taken by Colin Robinson's team at www.colinrobisonimaging.com. Please contact me if you have a handy pony/horse or XC rosette to collect.

Thanks again to everyone involved in the show this year and I hope to see you all again next year for Blair Gymkhana's 40th Anniversary show.
